L`azienda è stata fondata a Birmingham nel 1800 da William Hutton e nel 1832 è stata trasferita a Sheffield.
Dopo la morte del fondatore, l`attività ha proseguito sotto lo stile di William Hutton, condotta da suo figlio William Carr Hutton.
L`azienda è stata trasformata in William Hutton & Sons nel 1864 e nel 1893-1930 in William Hutton & Sons Ltd.
La società ha utilizzato il marchio CROSS frecce ( 6 o 8 frecce) dopo l`acquisizione di Creswick & Co (c. 1900).
All’esposizione del 1900 la Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company, una delle principali ditte espositrici si avvalse dei lavori di William Hutton & Son eseguiti su disegni di Kate Harris, un artista influenzata dall’Art Nouveau.



Accadeva spesso che molti argentieri inglesi di Birmingham poco conosciuti erano all`avanguarda producendo oggetti in stile moderno Art Nouveau, mentre le grandi manifatture come William Hutton & Sons, Artur Price, Mappin & Webb, Walker & Hall ed Elkington...solo per fare qualche esempio... essendo più interessati all`aspetto commerciale producessero manufatti tradizionali.


Raramente si avvicinarono alla stile moderno Art Nouveau prendendo nel loro team designer importanti: Mappin & Webb assoldò Keith Murray e, come abbiamo detto prima, William Hutton la brava artista kate Harris (in alto a destra uno dei marchi di William Hutton, a sinistra un esempio di cesellatura).

All `exposition of 1900, the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company, a leading exhibiting companies took advantage of the work performed by William Hutton & Son designs by Kate Harris, an artist influenced by Art Nouveau. It often happened that many English silversmiths of Birmingham were all `little-known avant-garde, producing objects in a modern Art Nouveau, while large manufacturers such as William Hutton & Sons, Arthur Price, Mappin & Webb, Walker & Hall and Elkington ... just to make some examples ... being more interested to commercial aspect would produce traditional crafts.

Rarely approached the modern Art Nouveau designers taking their team as important as Mappin & Webb, who hired Keith Murray, and Harris William Hutton as we said before, the talented Kate (top right a trade mark of William Hutton).
